Probable Cause Definition
Probable cause is the standard of legal proof required for an arrest to take place, for search warrants to be issued, or for charges to be filed. Probable cause exists when there is a reasonable basis to believe that a crime may have been committed for an arrest or when evidence of the crime is present in the place to be searched.
