Abscond Bond Definition
Absconding implies evading judicial proceedings by fleeing the court’s jurisdiction, hiding, or concealing oneself. If a defendant is out of jail and on bond or bail, absconding from the court, usually by failing to appear for a scheduled hearing, frequently results in the forfeiture of any bond or bail on deposit with the court.
When a bondsman posts bond or bail, they become responsible for paying the total amount of the bond to the court if they cannot locate and return the defendant to the court or local jail.
