Bail Definition
Bail is security, usually cash, posted or deposited with a court or jail to secure a defendant’s release from custody while a criminal case is pending in court. Bail can be personal (a promise to appear without posting cash), cash, 10%, or a surety. A surety bond requires a bondsman.
