Charge Definition
A “charge” is a formal accusation that a person committed a misdemeanor or felony criminal offense. Someone facing criminal charges is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. A “charge” is not a conviction; it is merely an allegation. A person facing felony charges is entitled to a hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence for the case to go to trial.
