Warrant Definition
A warrant is a court order issued by a judge or magistrate authorizing police or other law enforcement officers or agents to make an arrest, search a premises, or carry out some other action relating to an official investigation or judicial proceedings. A search warrant must be supported by probable cause to believe the search will uncover evidence of a crime. The judge will issue an arrest warrant when sufficient evidence shows a particular person committed a crime and should face prosecution.
