Judge Definition

A judge is a public official elected or appointed to preside over court proceedings. Judges must be fair and objective in interpreting the law’s meaning, importance, and ramifications. Michigan judges preside over local district courts, county circuit courts, the Michigan Court of Appeals, and the Michigan Supreme Court. The president of the United States appoints federal judges to serve life terms. Judges in criminal matters preside over bench trials, evidentiary hearings, sentencing, arraignment, etc.
